Love the Lord with all your heart

Rock 1: Love God With All Your Heart

In the Hebrew language, the word “heart” referred to the person’s center.  The deepest part of a person where morals and conscience reside.  When Jesus commanded that we “seek the Lord with all our heart” I believe He was imploring every believer to meet God through personal worship.  Nothing takes us deeper into our personal connection with God than worshipping the One who created us.

Love the Lord with all your heartPersonal, Private Worship

Christianity began form a very personal connection to God. It did not start in the way that most religions do, with distance. Instead, it focused on meeting with a God who came in humility and love and who walked the earth as a human.

Before Jesus’ death on the cross, He prayed for unity. John 17:20-21 depicts this when it says,

“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.”

Jesus came to bridge the gap between man and God. Because of Jesus, Christians are able to confidently approach their Savior and God in communion. Therefore, significant part of Christian faith and worship is personal. Private worship was displayed by Jesus Himself. We see various aspects of scripture that display this personal and private worship.

Keys To Personal Worship

As we move through life, there are clues to our unique purpose in life. But there are some things we are ALL born to do! For instance, we are all born to love. We were created to give and receive love. And we were created to worship God, personally.

We are created to be worshippers of God. We must be worshippers of God. We flourish when we engage in personal worship. We flourish when we love God and love people.

  • Recognize God Is Holy

In your personal worship, imagine the Holiness of God. Think of His majesty. He is the God who has no beginning, who has no end. He is holy and all-powerful. God is Holy. He is worthy to be praised. “Day and night, they never stop saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.” Revelation 4:8 NIV.

  • Direct Your Worship To God

Sing to God. Express your devotion to Him. Worship is not for our benefit – it is for God’s benefit.  Many people think the sermon is the main meal, and worship is the warm-up.

  • Worship Earnestly

It’s difficult to explain the word “earnest.” It means – with passion – but that’s not all. It also means sincerity and intention. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way. Earnestly worshipping is looking to God. Not a glance but a look.  Look intently at His majesty – His presence – His promise.
