Five Divergent factions

Five “Divergent” Factions

Introduction to The 5 Life Languages ® (continued)

In the book trilogy and film series entitled Divergent, factions are societal divisions that classify citizens based on their aptitudes and values. The five “Divergent” factions are Dauntless (the Brave), Amity (the Kind), Erudite (the Intelligent), Abnegation (the Selflesse), and Candor (the Honest).

This movie, as well as other philosophies and social statements point to the reality that humans tend to naturally separate into five natural sub-types.

The Brave Divergent Faction – Dauntless

This individual commonly exhibits these characteristics: Courageously resolute, especially in the face of danger or difficulty; not discouraged. Undaunted, resolute, especially in the face of danger. Being fearless and being undaunted are two different things.

Bravery and courage involve deliberate choice in the face of painful or fearful circumstances for the sake of a worthy goal. There is a close connection between fear and confidence. Fear and confidence in relation to courage can determine the success of a courageous act or goal. Self-confidence; confidence in knowing one’s skills and abilities and being able to determine when to fight fear or when to flee it are what makes this faction brave. The ideal in courage is not just a rigid control of fear, nor is it a denial of the emotion. The ideal is to judge a situation, accept the emotion as part of human nature and, we hope, use well-developed habits to confront the fear and allow reason to guide our behavior toward a worthwhile goal.

The Kind Divergent Faction – Amity

This individual commonly exhibits these characteristics: Friendship; peaceful harmony. Mutual understanding and a peaceful relationship, especially between nations; peace; accord. Cordiality. Cultivating strong relationships and trying to understand each other.

The Kind Faction love music, art, games, and laughter. They give hugs when greeting. They vote on everything, almost unanimously. Their bread has peace serum added to prevent their members from fighting. Amity’s essential nature comes from its crop-growing. They run the farms, which provides some of the food for all the factions. They tend to be counsellors, caretakers, and artists. Kindness is a type of behavior marked by acts of generosity, consideration, rendering assistance, or concern for others, without expecting praise or reward in return.

The Intelligent Divergent Faction – Erudite

The word “erudite” focuses on knowledge rather than intelligence– intelligence being something you’re born with, and can’t necessarily control, and knowledge being something that you acquire.

This individual commonly exhibits these characteristics: Chat about books and newspapers; in constant pursuit of knowledge. Curiosity, which drives them to seek knowledge. Those in this group often become librarians, doctors, scientists, and teachers. They keep records, and most technological advances are due to this group.

The Selfless Divergent Faction – Abnegation

This individual commonly exhibits these characteristics: To refuse or deny oneself of some rights, conveniences, etc. To relinquish; give up. Active forms of stripping things from your life. As opposed to relinquish, give up– more passive.

They tend to sit quietly and wait. Bow heads, a sign of respect, when greeting each other. Not manipulative, but not forthright. Their morally incorruptible quality makes them the only reasonable faction to be able to govern the city as political leaders. This individual performs an action at a cost to themselves (in terms of, for example, pleasure and quality of life, time, probability of survival or reproduction) that benefits, directly or indirectly, another individual, without the expectation of reciprocity or compensation for that action.

The Honest Divergent Faction – Candor

This individual commonly exhibits these characteristics: The state or quality of being frank, open, and sincere in speech or expression; candidness. Feedom from bias; fairness; impartiality. The group is not just trying to develop honesty, they’re also trying to develop impartiality. Honest, trustworthy, and able to read body language to detect lies.

Terms like reputability and trustworthiness deonte a reputation of honesty. Honesty about ones conduct and commitments are elements of accountability, reliability, dependability, and conscientiousness. Someone who goes out of their way to tell possibly unwelcome truths extends honesty into the region of candor or frankness.
